They offer retailers the opportunity to access an established customer base without having to invest heavily in their own website or marketing. In addition, a presence on marketplaces increases the visibility of one's own brand and enables retailers to benefit from the platforms' extensive marketing activities and technical infrastructure.  In particular, end consumers appreciate the wide availability and easy comparison of products and prices on platforms such as Zalando, Globus, Digitec Galaxus and Amazon. From a global trend to a local boom. ## From a global trend to a local boom: The attractiveness of online marketplaces on the Swiss market The rising popularity of online marketplaces does not stop at the Swiss border. And for good reason, as German online retailers find particularly attractive conditions here: The high purchasing power of the Swiss, combined with low VAT and the strong online affinity of consumers create significant sales potential via the marketplace sales channel. Last year, [eight of the ten top-selling online stores in Switzerland were online marketplaces](https://insights.carpathia.ch/). Zalando led the way with sales of 1.75 billion CHF, closely followed by digitec.ch with 1.15 billion CHF and galaxus.ch with 1.04 billion CHF. But the advantages of selling via online marketplaces in Switzerland also raise questions.
